VE Day commemorates May 8, 1945, when fighting stopped in WWII as the Germans surrendered to the allies, marking the end of Adolf Hitler’s war and sparking celebrations around the globe.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge captioned the Instagram video: “Looking back at my very much missed and loved Nanny & Papa who ‘did their bit’ during #worldwar2 Today they would have raised a glass & remembered their friends #veday75 #lestweforget #sacrifice #freedom.”
Action man Bear Grylls, 45, shared a moving tribute and died in the VE Day events with workers on the frontline battling the coronavirus pandemic.
Bear, a former SAS serviceman and honorary colonel wrote on Insta: “8th May 1945… today we are so fortunate to be able to celebrate VE Day and remember all the many fallen heroes who gave their lives for our freedom.
“Today reminds me of the still strong spirit of endeavour and sacrifice in the many unsung heroes who are fighting a different battle for our freedom. Thank you.
“As Sir Winston Churchill said at the time to those, past and present: ‘This is YOUR victory.’
He also shared pics taken during wartime, NHS hero Colonel Tom Moore and medical staff in the present wearing face masks.
While David Beckham shared his appreciation for the brave soldiers and support staff over two Instagram posts, one which featured vintage photos from the era of people celebrating the end of the war.

“We are facing our own challenge in 2020 but what our older generation faced and overcame is simply unimaginable. The monumental effort and selfless sacrifice demonstrated by Britons of all ages, genders and ethnicities, whether fighting on the front line or driving society forwards at home, is truly humbling.
“So very many gave their tomorrow for our today. Their example can serve as inspiration for us in our difficult time. We must always be thankful for them and learn from them. We will remember them.”
