Neighbours’ greatest celebrity cameos – from Russell Brand and David Walliams to Michael Parkinson and Emma Bunton

NEIGHBOURS famously produces A-list actors, with Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe and Margot Robbie all starting out on the show.

But Ramsay Street has also become a celebrity hotspot for any British star who happens to be passing through Oz – with Russell Brand making his Erinsborough debut this week.

Ramsay Street has played host to many stars – including Little Britain’s David Walliams and Matt Lucas

The comedian follows in the footsteps of the likes of David Walliams, Matt Lucas and even Michael Parkinson, who have all had cameos on the soap.

Here, we run down some of the big British names who found themselves propping up the bar at Lassiter’s, confronting Paul Robinson or – in Neil Morrissey’s case – popping up as a priest…

Russell Brand made his Neighbours debut in Australia this week

He would up having a deep conversation with Toadfish

Russell Brand

Comedian and Hollywood star Russell Brand appeared on Neighbours this week – with his episode due to hit the UK on July 6.

In true wordy fashion, Russ, 45, tells Toadfish Rebecchi he is “touring the world, spreading the message – life, love, limitless. I’m a writer and I enjoy festivities… synchronicity”.

Toadie doesn’t seem quite so chatty, replying simply: “That’s awesome.”

Michael Parkinson appeared as himself in a 2007 episode set in London

Michael Parkinson

Back in 2007, chat show legend Michael Parkinson appeared on the long-running soap.

However, the 85-year-old was such a big draw the stars came to him, with his scenes being shot on Susan and Karl Kennedy’s holiday to London.

Star-struck Susan asks for his autograph, with Michael replying: “Give my regards to Dame Edna.” Of course.

Emma Bunton saved Karl Kennedy’s proposal plans by grabbing the ring he’d lost

Emma Bunton

As chance would have it, the pair also ran into Baby Spice herself, Emma Bunton.

The 44-year-old singer had a ringside seat at their engagement – after a classic moment of Neighbours comedy when Karl dropped the ring off the side of an open-top bus.

Luckily, there was a Spice Girl on hand to find it.

Janet Street-Porter flew to Melbourne to be on the show while on holiday in Australia

Janet Street-Porter

Loose Women star Janet might not look thrilled at being on the soap – but it was actually on her lifetime wish-list.

The 73-year-old flew to Melbourne last year for the special scenes, which saw her walking around Erinsborough telling off characters and causing chaos.

She even got a guided tour by Paul Robinson star Stefan Dennis who, in true Janet style, she berated for not knowing enough about Neighbours.

Jess Glynne said it was a ‘dream come true’ to appear on the soap

She performed for a sellout crowd at the soap’s Lassiter’s bar

Jess Glynne

Singer Jess famously pulled out of the Isle of Wight festival at the last minute last year – but still got booked to headline the Lassier’s Music Fest.

The 30-year-old singer played herself in the soap alongside Stefan Dennis, Bonnie Anderson and 90s boyband Hanson.

She said: “I’ve been watching Neighbours since I was a little kid, I grew up with up it, it was always there so it’s a very surreal experience to be here on the set and be actually acting.”

David Walliams appears as Little Britain’s Andy alongside Harold Bishop

David Walliams & Matt Lucas

Not only did Little Britain’s David and Matt turn up on the soap, they did it in the guise of two of their most famous characters – and didn’t say a word.

Playing wheelchair-bound Andy and his carer Lou, the pair appeared in the back of a shot at Scarlet Bar – as it was then known.

Matt’s character Andy jumped out of his wheelchair the moment David’s Lou went to chat to Harold Bishop – and was even shown clambering onto a motorbike to play a video game.

Neil Morrissey

There was a rather unlikely cameo during Karl and Susan’s star-studded wedding episode – with Neil Morrissey turning up as a priest.

Everything was going surprisingly smoothly as the 57-year-old Men Behaving Badly actor married them on a Thames cruiser back in 2007.

But, in true soap fashion, Karl’s ex turned up, said she was pregnant with his baby – and then promptly went into labour. Now that’s a cameo.
