SIMON Cowell is said to be launching a Britain’s Got Talent Christmas special.
Simon, 60, is planning a festive treat for ITV in the forms of mega ratings with the talent show spectacular.
According to reports, the show will be a “Christmas celebration… featuring some of the greats of BGT” and all of the judges, including Simon – if he has recovered from his back injury.
ITV are hoping the show will head off the BBC’s traditional domination of the festive TV market.
It’s believed that the likes of Susan Boyle and Paul Potts could be on the line-up as talent bookers have already started approaching former Britain’s Got Talent acts.
According to the Mirror Online, the Christmas show will be pre-recorded next month following the final of the current series.
A source said: “Simon has not done Christmas before and ITV jumped at the chance to put Britain’s Got Talent at the very heart of their festive schedule.
“It does huge ratings, so why not unleash it at a different time of year to mix things up a bit.
“The show will be a jam-packed full of Christmas cheer and music. It will not be a competition as such but a celebration of the show,” the insider added.
Dad-of-one Simon is currently recovering from a back operation in California, after breaking it whilst riding his electric bike.
Ashley Banjo is currently standing in for Simon on the current series of the ITV show, alongside Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.
“It would be great if Simon could make it but if not, he has an able deputy,” the source added.
