JOHN FASHANU’S lofty stature played to his advantage during his football career, then later helped bag TV roles including that as co-host of Gladiators.

But the former Wimbledon FC hero, 60, says being so tall has made skating on Dancing on Ice his scariest ever telly project.

John Fashanu, with dance partner Alexandra Schauman, says being so tall has made skating on Dancing on Ice his scariest ever telly project

Ahead of his first performance tomorrow, John said: “You’ve got a 6ft3in guy trying to be Bambi on the ice, it’s very difficult.

“Without a shadow of a doubt I would say this is the most worrying, scariest sport or project I’ve ever had.

“I would think that my mental strength is a plus. I always say ‘Yes, we can make this!’

“I would say I’m not as strong as I used to be. I’m an entertainer though, and this is a show where I’d love to be able to entertain.

John is skating with pro Alexandra Schauman, who is dancing on her ninth series of the show, to Eat My Goal by Collapsed Lung.

Fash laughed: “In my head, I’ve already won the show!”
