A FORMER I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! contestant has revealed there are “really scary” men hiding in the bushes in camp.
Actress Lucy Benjamin appeared in the jungle in 2009 and let slip the behind-the-scenes secret while chatting about the ITV1 show.
Speaking on Here She Is, a YouTube chat show, the ex EastEnders star said crew members suddenly pop out from behind trees in the middle of the night.
Lucy, 52, revealed: “You do kind of get used to all of those noises and all of the scurrying – at first you don’t sleep because there is scurrying everywhere. And there’s great big lizardy things coming.
“And do you know what’s really scary, there are men in camouflage that, if you’re walking to somewhere, just come out from behind a tree and say, ‘Mind that’. They’re spotting the animals. Or, ‘Step over that, step over this’.”
Lucy, who is best known for playing Lisa Fowler in EastEnders, lasted 10 days in series nine of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!.
She was first to be evicted from the jungle, after going up against telly chef Gino D’Acampo and singer and glamour model Samantha Fox in a public vote.
Gino went on to win the series, while Lucy has no regrets about signing up to the show.
“I’m pleased I did it,” she also said. “I’m not really a campy person but I ended up having the best time.
“To go to sleep when the sun goes down and to wake up when it comes up, it was just beautiful. There were no phones, there’s no anything.
