I’M A Celeb’s Matt Hancock got backing from an unlikely source after some claimed he was being “bullied” in the jungle.

Gogglebox‘s Jenny Newby urged campmates to lay off the MP while watching him being grilled on the Channel 4 show last night.

Jenny Newby defended the MP – but Lee Riley refused to

Campmates including Chris Moyles, Scarlette Douglas and Charlene White were shown standing or sitting around him firing questions at him.

Outraged Jenny, watching alongside Lee Riley, cried: “Somebody stick up for him for God’s sake.”

Lee, who wasn’t nearly so sympathetic, told her: “Shut up, you,” causing her to snap back: “I don’t care.”

She insisted to her unimpressed pal: “He wasn’t the killer, Covid was the killer.”

Matt was shown defending himself for his Covid rule-breaking, saying: “I didn’t break any laws, guidance was different.”

He added: “It was a mistake, I fell in love with somebody” before getting emotional and asking for “a bit of forgiveness”.

Lee sneered: “Don’t tell me he’s going to f***ing cry.” Jenny told him: “Let him cry, it’ll do him good to get it off his chest.”

Matt, who was widely derided for going on I’m A Celeb, has won some fans in the jungle, partly because of his treatment.

One viewer tweeted: “I voted for Matt to stay. I don’t agree with almost his entire political record but I don’t think passive aggressive bullying by some celebrities is an edifying way to hold anyone to account.”

Another fan agreed with the Gogglebox star, posting: “I’m with you Jenny – I can’t stand @MattHancock but equally can’t stand bullies – who made that lot judge & jury.”

However, many others were unimpressed. One wrote: “Jenny has just gone way down in my estimation. Defending Matt Hancock??!! FFS.”
