I’M A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! fans have blasted the series’ first Bushtucker Trial after Chris Moyles was left gasping for breath in rising water.

The radio DJ was locked in a tank called a ‘torpedo tube’ before water began pouring inside and up towards his face.

Boy George’s face briefly went under water

With one minute left to go in the HMS Drown Under trial, it was so close to covering his mouth that Chris was left panic-stricken.

“It is getting quite high in here,” he shouted to I’m a Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec.

Chris then began coughing, before telling them: “I’m finding it hard to breathe. I swallowed some water!”

Pop star Boy George was also locked in a ‘torpedo tube’ alongside Chris and the water level was seen briefly rising above his mouth.

However, the Culture Club star remarkably managed to stay calm by ‘meditating’.

But fans were shocked at how frightening the Bushtucker Trial was – and admitted they feared for both Chris and Boy George.

One tweeted: “That water trial looked so dangerous… surely that got too high… hard to watch.”

Another agreed: “That task was dangerous. The water went way too high…”

A third raged: “That trial looked awful for chris, the water was very high and the poor bloke thought he was gonna drown.”

And someone else chimed in: “I feel so sorry for Chris. That is so claustrophobic. That was something out of a horror movie.

“Even my Dad whose hard as nails said that was dangerous and too close for comfort.”

Chris and Boy George took part in the Bushtucker Trial alongside fellow campmates Scarlette Douglas and Olivia Attwood.

The girls were tasked with putting their hands in ‘hell holes’, filled with reptiles, and turning on taps.

When each tap was fully turned on, water poured into Chris and Boy George’s ‘torpedo tubes’ and a yellow star was released.

But two minutes away from the trial finishing, Chris began panicking.

“Oh, it’s getting high. Oh my god it’s getting a bit high,” he shouted to Ant and Dec.

Thankfully, both Chris and Boy George were ‘flushed’ out of the tank when the 10 minutes was up and were soaked but unscathed.

Checking he was alright, Ant said to a shaken Chris: “You seemed to have a little panic there at the end. Are you okay?”

The former Radio 1 Breakfast Show host replied: “Did you notice?”

Gesturing to his mouth, he explained: “With two minutes to go the water was here. Because of the helmet, there’s not much wiggle room. And then I may have panicked.”
