The internet was flooded with memes about the announcement

Bush Tucker Trials are doled out by public vote and often force contestants to complete stomach churning challenges.

One of the best memes posted on Twitter showed a clip from The Weakest Link, where all the contestants had the name Matt written on their boards.

It was captioned “The British public voting for Matt Hancock to do every Bush Tucker Trial.”

Another with a similar caption showed EastEnders legend Dame Barbara Windsor hanging up a mobile phone with a mischievous grin.

One commenter replied to this with a gif of a man in a cowboy hat saying “We got to do what we got to do”.

Meanwhile, one user played on Mr Hancock’s connections to the Boris Johnson government, with a meme suggesting how the soon-to-be ITV contestant will have food delivered into the jungle.

This took the form of former PM Johnson’s infamous zipline photo, where the then-mayor of London got stuck in mid-air while waving two Union flags.

Yet another meme referenced the fact that England football icon Jill Scott MBE will be on the show alongside Mr Hancock.

It showed the fiery photo from the Euro final where the Lioness was snapped roaring her anger at a German opponent, with the caption “When Jill Scott sees Matt Hancock arrive in the jungle”.

Commenters were quick to have a laugh at the stream of hilarious memes.

One wrote: “This is actually going to happen and I’m living for it.”

Another joked: “I’m just waiting for Boy George’s reaction. I think he will let rip.”

Meanwhile, a third user pointed out a similar thing happened to former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries when she was on the show in 2012.
