Richard Madeley WON’T return to GMB on Monday and is ‘too ill’ after I’m A Celeb exit, says Ben Shephard

RICHARD Madeley is “too ill” to return to Good Morning Britain on Monday after his I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! exit, Ben Shephard has revealed.

The 65-year-old star was forced out of the reality show yesterday after he was rushed to hospital in the early hours of the morning.

Richard left I’m A Celeb prematurely yesterday

Despite being cleared to return to the castle he was unable to as his hospital dash had broken the show’s secure Covid bubble.

Richard has been co-hosting Good Morning Britain over the last couple of months, and is set to replace Piers Morgan as Susanna Reid’s official co-host in the new year.

Speaking about whether or not the TV favourite will be on the breakfast show to discuss his I’m A Celeb experience next week, presenter Ben admitted that he may not be up to it.

He shared: “Apparently we’ll be talking to him on Monday. Maybe we won’t – we’re hearing he’s too ill.”

Ben concluded: “Okay, hopefully we’ll talk to Richard on Monday.”

Richard is set to break his silence on his departure in a bombshell interview with Ant and Dec on tonight’s I’m A Celeb.

In a statement, he’d previously admitted to being “gutted” to leave the show after just four days – with his daughter Chloe saying on Instagram that he is “livid”.

She told her followers: “Dad’s absolutely fine, we’ve been speaking to him all day.

“Ultimately, he’s just livid he can’t go back into camp because of Covid restrictions. He did himself proud though. He worked hard and was his calm, collected, kind and funny self. We are so proud!”

However, Richard is expected to pick up his full £200,000 fee  because his departure was out of his control.

Richard left stars and production staff terrified with his health scare – which saw medics rush to Gwrych Castle, where the ITV show is filmed.

A source told us: “It was horrifying – campers were really upset and concerned, all of the crew and medics rushed to set to help him. It was a real scare for everyone involved.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 05.43am this morning, Thursday 25 November 2021, to reports of a medical emergency at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, Conwy.

“We sent a paramedic in a rapid response car and an emergency ambulance to the scene, and one patient was taken to hospital.”

Speaking in a statement yesterday afternoon, Richard explained: “I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution. By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.

“Obviously I’m gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority. I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue…even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle…”

Meanwhile, viewers blamed the show for making the star ill after he undertook a gruelling Bushtucker Trial that saw him visibly shaking from the “freezing” cold.
