The TV star, 40, who faces trial in March, plans to spend time with friends and escape the spotlight.

Pals say the pressure of life in the UK has become increasingly intense following her first court appearance last week, in which she denied claims she assaulted Lewis Burton, 27.

Restrictions remain in place preventing the pair from spending time together ahead of the trial, prompting her to fly out to the States alone.

A pal said: The intensity of everything going on has all been a huge amount to take, and she has just decided its time for a break plus Love Island is only going to draw even more attention to everything.

Shes staying with a good friend and wants to spend her time hiking, enjoying the weather and taking some time out to get her head around everything.

Theres no rehab or anything like that; just some time out to gather her thoughts and chill out.

Flack will be replaced on Love Island by pal Laura Whitmore, 34, for the reality shows winter series.

After the court hearing on December 23, Lewis said it was heartbreaking they would be unable to see each other over Christmas.

She is alleged to have whacked pro tennis player Lewis over the head with a lamp while he slept at her flat in Islington, North London.

Lewis called 999 and said: She tried to kill me.

Cops had to restrain Flack on the ground after they arrived, the court heard.

She sobbed in the dock as the allegations were made.

Lewis is alleged to have received significant head injuries but lawyers say he does not support the prosecution.

They are still a couple and both insist they want to see each other again and move on.
