CHRIS Hughes has opened up about his NTAs paparazzi brawl and believes people want to ‘destroy’ his relationship with Jesy Nelson.

The former Love Island star had a heated bust up with a photographer outside London’s O2 Arena in January, just hours after girlfriend Jesy won a gong for her BBC documentary, Odd One Out.

As a consequence, Chris, 27, has been axed from a Sport Relief challenge but thankfully his romance with Jesy, 28, remains as strong as ever.

Video footage emerged of Chris lashing out after being called a “c***”, and speaking to The Sun’s TV Magazine, Chris admitted the abuse he receives for being in the limelight can be hard.

He said: “We live in a world where people just want to destroy you. It’s a nightmare.”

Chris immediately apologised to Jesy for tainting her big night after she tearfully accepted her award for Factual Entertainment Programme on stage.

Recalling her speech, Chris said: “But Jesy spoke really well that night – she’s a very attractive crier!

“She looks very pretty when she cries. We rarely go to showbiz parties. We love going out doing adventurous things together, rather than going to a club – something different and exciting.

“Or just sitting down and watching TV together, cuddling on the sofa. Normal things.”

Despite Jesy being in the biggest girl band in the world, Chris insists they don’t lead a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and prefer to be much more low key.

Chris said the couple prefer nights in or being out in the countryside and aren’t big drinkers

He continued: “We don’t go out every weekend and we’re not massive drinkers.

“We’re very similar in that respect – how we enjoy ourselves. When we go to the Cotswolds, we’ll go on bike rides.

“We bought two bikes last summer. It’s nice. Fresh air’s good for you!”
