Responding to the tragic news, a spokeswoman for ITV shared their condolences to the family and friends of the 40-year-old presenter.

The statement read: “Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.”

“Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.”

It comes after Caroline’s family announced the news in a heartbreaking statement.

In a statement, they said: “We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today, the 15th of February.

“We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time and we would ask they make no attempt to contact us and/or photograph us.”

A lawyer for Caroline’s family confirmed that the 40-year-old took her own life and was found in her east London flat on Saturday.

Caroline who started her career as an actress and is an ex of Prince Harry was forced to stand down from her 1.2 million position as Love Island host after her arrest for allegedly attacking Lewis in Islington, north London on December 12.

She always insisted she was innocent and vowed to clear her name.

Model Lewis, 27 denied the prosecution – with defiant Caroline determined to prove her innocence after denying assault by beating.

Those close to Caroline are said to be furious that the CPS had continued to prosecute Caroline despite Lewis making clear he did not want them to and there being no serious injury.

They are angry that the CPS had refused to listen to warnings that Caroline was vulnerable.

Caroline Flack’s boyfriend had posted a Valentine’s Day message
