LOVE Island star Lucie Donlan has revealed she used to be so ashamed of her body she wouldn’t be caught dead on the beach in her bikini.
The blonde surfer, 22, from Cornwall, also encourages women to make the first move on men after she slid into boyfriend Winter Love Islander Luke Mabbott‘s DMs on social media.
Launching her new sustainable Ann Summers KBX Planet lingerie collection she said: “When I was younger I never would’ve dreamed I’d feel confident enough to wear a bikini on the beach, let alone promote a lingerie range.
“I suffered a bit in my teens with my body confidence – I didn’t like showing my arms, so I often wore long-sleeved jackets. I would only feel safe on the beach when I was in my wetsuit, so my skin wasn’t on show.
“Two years ago I cut out gluten from my diet and I felt so much better in myself and I lost weight. I did a lot of fitness training too so now I feel proud of my body.”
Now Lucie, who went in the famous Majorcan villa in 2019, sticks to a healthy diet and regularly works out with her personal trainer.
She said: “I try to stick to a healthy diet, but a normal day for me will be three filling, healthy meals a day, trying to snack on junk as little as possible. I don’t count calories. My favourite meal is tuna, rice and sweet chilli sauce.
“When Luke and I go out on a date I’ll have pizza, I try to keep as active as possible. I do a lot of crossfit and I have a personal trainer, I walk the dogs a lot when I’m at home.
“I do anything that lifts my mood. I like yoga, but the best thing for me is surfing, because when you’re out in the sea and focusing on the waves, you forget about everything else going on in your life on land. It’s for me it’s my meditation.”
Lucie has found love with fellow reality star and Justin Beiber lookalike Luke Mabbott, 25, who she wooed on Instagram after lusting after him on the ITV2 reality show.
But she’s quick to insist she didn’t date him while he was still with ex Demi Jones, 22, from the show.
She said: “He was definitely single when I got to know him, it’s a shame that all that happened, but I wish her all the best.
“We’ll always be thankful for Love Island for putting us out there – but people forget we weren’t actually on the same series.
“When I was watching the Winter Love Island series I said to my mum, ‘He’s perfectly suited to me.’ He looks so much like Justin Bieber – when I was younger I always used to fancy Justin Beiber – he was my teenage crush.
“It’s like a dream come true – whenever we go out people think it’s Bieber.
“I always fancied him and when I saw he was single, I slid into his DMs. When you like someone you’ve just got to go for it. We went for a picnic.”
Now Lucie is excited to be fronting an eco-friendly lingerie range especially as it’s a cause close to her heart.
She said: “The range is so special all the lace is 100 per cent recycled and sustainable.
“I’m in the sea all the time and I see a lot of damage in the ocean, I see birds caught up in disposable masks – the bands are stuck around their legs, it’s heartbreaking.
“I walk my dog along the beach and I see a lot of rubbish – microplastic, toothbrushes – it’s ruining the environment.
“The best thing to do if you want to make a difference to the environment is make small changes like reusable bottles, masks, make-up wipes – even getting a bamboo toothbrush will help make a difference to your day-to-day life.”
