Lipoedema causes an abnormal build-up of fat cells in the body

The chronic condition is an abnormal build-up of fat cells, which can be painful, uncomfortable and leave suffers feeling depressed about their appearance.

Shaughna had fat removed from her legs in September but she found herself in agony when taking to the ice rink for her first day of Full Monty training.

The reality star will be shown skating – and stripping – alongside a group of fellow celebs for the ITV show, which aims to raise awareness of cancer in intimate areas.

Shaughna signed up in memory of her late father Eddie, who died from cancer in December 2016 following an 18-month battle, so therefore refused to quit.

In an exclusive interview, Shaughna reveals: “The first day of training I couldn’t get my foot into my boot.

“There was blood pouring down my laces. I was in so much pain.

“I was skating in my dad’s memory so there was no way I wasn’t going to do it. Plus I’m an Aries, it’s not in our blood to quit.”

Shaughna previously admitted to telling a therapist about how insecure she was of her legs before entering the Love Island villa in January.

She has since spoken to the BBC about the condition

The star had no idea she was suffering from lipoedema, until a fan got in touch after the ITV2 show to ask if she had it. She then sought medical help.

Shaughna tells HOAR: “It was a huge relief getting diagnosed. I just thought I had a big problem area but to know it was a medical condition was a huge weight lifted from my shoulders.

“Half the battle was won as soon as I was diagnosed. I thought I had really bad water retention. I was taking lots of water tablets and had so many near misses when I was in the car.”

She adds: “They were my biggest insecurity. I have so much more confidence now.”

She paid to have the operation done privately

Shaughna says her legs still feel “bruised and heavy” but that “they are still working”.

“They are still quite swollen so I don’t look like Nicole Scherzinger yet but I am really happy with the result,” she says.

“Hopefully I won’t have to have the procedure again, but the condition can flare up again with pregnancy so, if that happens, I’ll have more surgery. “

Shaughna will be appearing in The Real Full Monty On Ice alongside stars including actress actress Hayley Tamaddon, fellow Love Island alumni Chris Hughes and former X Factor star Jake Quickenden.

The show has already been filmed and Shaughna says she was more fearful of slipping on the ice than stripping off.

She says: “The whole time I was in Blackpool I was having nightmares of falling over like Gemma Collins’ did, but while I was naked.

Other stars taking part include Jake Quickenden and Chris Hughes

“I can’t get up gracefully so it wouldn’t have been pretty. I was terrified thinking about being dragged around the ice naked.

“The night before I couldn’t sleep but when it came down to it, I was ok.  It would have made headlines though so many I should have thought about that!”

The Real Full Monty On Ice airs on ITV1 on December 14 and 15 at 9pm.
