THE price of biscuits has soared by as much as 42 per cent, a report shows.
Almost 100 of the most affordable products have got dearer over the past 12 weeks.
Biscuit prices have risen as much as 42 percent across supermarkets in the UK
Sainsbury’s Malted Milk Biscuits are up 42.9 per cent from 35p to 50p for 200g.
Tesco Oaty Rounds Biscuits leapt 37.1 per cent from 35p to 49p for 300g.
Morrisons’ own Bourbon Creams rose 27.1 per cent from 59p to 75p for 300g, according to The Grocer mag using Assosia data.
In Asda, Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Biscuit Twin Pack 2x154g is 17.2% more expensive, from £1.28 to £1.50.And the price of McVitie’s Hobnobs Chocolate Creams 160g has grown 15.4%, from 65p to 75p.
A spokesman for Morrisons said it was working to keep prices low but faces “an unprecedented period of inflation”.
The Grocer has approached the other multiple retailers and McVitie’s for comment.
It comes after several tea brands – including Twinings, Pukka and Tetley – have seen significant price increases in the major supermarkets this year.
