DOZENS of jobs could be cut at the iconic Madame Tussauds attraction as a result of Covid-19, it is feared.

A consultation on jobs at the world famous wax museum has been launched by bosses as a result of the financial impact of coronavirus.

Dozens of jobs could be cut at Madame Tussauds due to the coronavirus crisis

The London venue has been shut since March 20 and no date has yet been set on when it could reopen but it is expected later in the summer.

A source told HOAR they thought “dozens” were set to lose their jobs across a range of roles from different departments as a result of lockdown and the low footfall.

They said: “It’s going to have a huge impact.

“The staff are really gutted. They’re devastated. It’s like a family. People are very close. They are very upset.

“It’s not been able to open during lockdown and when it eventually does there’s a real fear it won’t be anything like it was before because of social distancing.

“That’s one of the reasons for the cuts – they just won’t be able to operate like they could before.

“Some parts of the attraction just won’t be able to open because of social distancing for a while.

“They’ll have to lower prices as well surely, I think. They charge top dollar as it is and when there’s a reduction in what they can offer people won’t want to pay the same.”

The famous London attraction, which features waxworks of Harry and Meghan, has been shut since March 20 and has no set date to reopen

A note on the museum’s website says “we will soon be sharing our plans with you for reopening and can’t wait to welcome you back through the doors!”

The museum is part of the Merlin Entertainments group – which includes Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Warwick Castle among many others.

A spokesman for the company declined to comment.
