Four ways to keep kids happy and entertained during lockdown and rainy weather

WET and cold weather really puts a damper on keeping the children entertained.

But there are lots of fun, purse-friendly activities you can do indoors that they will love. Here are my favourites . . .

Cooking with children may get messy and that is part of the fun

DIY DOUGH: Make playtime last longer by creating your own playdough.

Get eight tablespoons of plain flour, two tablespoons of salt, 60ml warm water, one tablespoon of vegetable oil and a drop of food colouring.

Mix the flour and salt in one bowl, the rest of the ingredients in another.

Then mix the two and knead into one ball of playdough.

BAKE OFF: The last lockdown turned us into a nation of bakers – so why not use your skills to make some tasty treats with your kids?

I always love a batch of chocolate rice krispie cakes.

All you need is rice krispies and a chocolate of their choosing. For less mess, grab a vanilla cupcake mix for just £1.20 with a Clubcard at Tesco, usually £1.50. Then decorate as you wish. SAVING: 30p

INDOOR CINEMA: Dreary weather usually calls for a family cinema trip, but you can recreate the experience at home.

Plus it’s cheaper — check out NOW TV for bargain bundles. The service is currently offering a seven-day free trial of Sky Movies when you sign up.

Chuck in a bag of popcorn kernels for just £1.25 at Asda.

Grab the popcorn and have a home movie night

ARTS AND CRAFTS: Encourage your kids to use their imagination with some arts and crafts.

Theworks.co.uk has a giant bag of assorted crafts for just £6 — including googly eyes and pom pom balls.

Plus it’s cheaper than similar kits sold at argos.co.uk for £10.

Bonus — grab 10 per cent cashback when buying arts, crafts toys, books and stationary at The Works via topcashback.co.uk. SAVING: £4
