The £4 monsters from South Africa will be sold at Tesco.

Giant avocados will be sold at Tescos from today

The supersized fruit comes from just a few trees grown more than 5,000 miles away.

A bumper crop of the South African-grown Avozilla’ are on offer this year thanks to a great harvest and perfect growing conditions in the hot climate abroad.

More of the monster fruit is also available because trees bearing Avozillas only grow every other year as they are so heavy.

Shoppers can grab a rare Avozilla for £4 when they go on sale at 300 Tesco stores across the country on Friday.

Avozillas arriving to supermarket shelves this year have an average length of nine inches and circumference of up to five inches.

A major high street stir was caused when the Avozillas went on sale for the first time in 2013 – because they were five times bigger than a regular avocado.

Avocado buyer Jordan Blandford has said the Avozillas are perfect for party recipes

But suppliers of the giant fruit have said this year’s crop is 10 times bigger.
Tesco chilled salad and avocado buyer Jordan Blandford said: “These amazing whoppers are guaranteed to stop anyone in their tracks.

“The Avozilla is perfect if you are making a party size portion of guacamole as you only need to remove the skin of one fruit.

“One of these monsters makes a huge bowl of guacamole.”
