HAIRDRESSING salons plan to operate longer opening hours when they finally welcome back customers from July 4.
It comes as thousands of Brits looking to tame their manes have joined waiting lists for appointments.
Hairdressing salons can finally reopen on July 4 following coronavirus lockdown
Hairdressers were forced to close in March due to the coronavirus crisis, but on Tuesday Boris Johnson gave them the green light to reopen in July.
And demand is huge, with many salons already fully booked into August and others have waiting lists of more than 2,500 people.
A spokesperson for the National Hair & Beauty Federation, which represents more than 5,000 salons, said: “I don’t have a single report of a salon not opening on July 4.
“The demand has just been so great.”
She said many salons were booked for at least two weeks after July 4 and some for the whole month.
She added: “Many will be opening longer hours than before to both ensure they meet client demand and will run a shift system for staff to keep them safe and well.”
It comes as Richard Ward Hair and Metro Spa in London has a waiting list of 2,500 customers, while Hazel & Haydn in Birmingham reports a list of more than 2,000.
Richard Wallace Hair in Solihull is fully booked until late August, with the team set to work seven days a week until 9pm.
The salon only opened its bookings two weeks ago.
Richard Wallace Hair is usually open between 9am until 5pm on Mondays, 9am until 8pm Tuesday to Thursday and 9am until 6pm on Fridays.
It’s then typically open from 9am until 4pm on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays.
Meanwhile, Architect Hair in Leeds currently has all senior stylists fully booked until early August.
It sold over £7,000 worth of vouchers to customers during lockdown, who bought them to pay for appointments as soon as they became available.
A spokesperson for hairdressing chains Regis and Supercuts told HOAR they will extend salon opening hours as well as open on Sundays, if they didn’t already do so.
The opening hours for each salon will vary depending on demand though, so you’ll need to contact your local one to find out.
HOAR has also asked hairdressing chain Toni & Guy whether it plans to operate longer opening hours, and we’ll update this article once we hear back.
To protect customers and staff from coronavirus, salons have to follow a wide range of government guidelines, which we’ve listed above.
Hairdressing salons in England will be allowed to reopen from July 4, while those in Northern Ireland are expected to reopen from July 6 and those in Wales from July 13.
The news will be welcome to Brits as many have cut their own hair during the coronavirus lockdown.
Ministers had previously feared that hairdressers will have to remain shut for six more months, as scientists had found no safe way for salons to reopen.
