Lynsey Hope tested supermarket own brands to see how they compare to the nation’s favourites

Lynsey Hope tested supermarket own brands to see how they compare to the nation’s favourite, Cadbury Dairy Milk.

Cadbury Dairy Milk

110g, £1 (90.9p/100g)

Rating: 8/10

Cadbury is the nations favourite – for good reason

NOTHING compares to Cadbury on taste – we all love it.

It smells delicious, too.

But it’s expensive and the bars are shrinking.

Asda Milk Chocolate

200g, £1 (50p/100g)

Rating: 7/10

This chocolate, although a budget choice, is a perfectly tasty treat

A VERY chunky bar, but gets a bit sickly after a few squares.

For a budget choice, a perfectly tasty treat.

Great for baking, too.

Waitrose Belgian Milk Chocolate

180g, £1.80 (£1/100g)

Rating: 4/10

Waitrose chocolate is good quality, smooth and creamy but I found it a bit rich

IT’S good quality, smooth and creamy but I found it a bit too rich.

It’s palm oil-free, so a good eco choice.

Not my favourite and rather too expensive.

Morrisons Savers Milk Chocolate

100g, 36p (36p/100g)

Rating: 9/10

The Morrisons saver bar isn’t Cadbury’s, but at 36p you can’t go wrong

THIS costs around half the price of a Wispa, let alone Dairy Milk – but it was lovely.

It’s not Cadbury, but at 36p you can’t go wrong.

Lidl Fin Carre Milk Chocolate

100g, 49p (49p/100g)

Rating: 8/10

You get nearly twice as much for your £1 as Dairy Milk, so this bar is great value

YOU get nearly twice as much for your £1 as Dairy Milk, so it’s great value.

It was indulgent without being too rich.

I’d go back for this – yummy!

Tesco Milk Chocolate

200g, £1.75 (87.5p/100g)

Rating: 5/10

This bar is not the cheapest but is a decent size, ideal for sharing

VERY chunky – and middle of the road.

It’s not the cheapest but is a decent size, ideal for sharing.

Good for baking, too.

Aldi Choceur Milk Chocolate

200g, 1.49p (74.5p/100g)

Rating: 6/10

Smooth and melt-in-the-mouth, this bar is ideal for a cheeky choc fix

ANOTHER chunky bar, this one was creamy and flavoursome.

Smooth and melt-in-the-mouth, it is ideal for a cheeky choc fix that is not too expensive.

Milk Chocolate by Sainsbury’s

Milk Chocolate by Sainsbury’s

Rating: 9/10

I’d go back to Sainsbury’s for this bar – yummy

YOU get nearly twice as much for your £1 as Dairy Milk, so it’s great value.

It was indulgent without being too rich.

I’d go back for this – yummy!
