Lloyds Bank has announced plans to close a further 66 branches across the UK.

In total, 48 Lloyds Bank branches and 18 Halifax locations will close between August and November this year.

Lloyds Bank has announced plans to closure a further 66 branches across the UK

It comes after the banking group closed 28 sites between January and April this year.

More than 140 branches will be closing in 2022, and 13 will be shutting their doors in January.

A spokesman for Lloyds said visit to these branches have fallen by 60% in the last five years, on average, and by 85% in some locations.

The banking giant said it was aiming to support staff impacted and to move those who wanted to stay with the bank to a new role.

For each branch which will close, Lloyds said there will be a free cash machine or Post Office within one mile, so affected customers can still access their cash.

It blamed the closures on more customers using online banking services rather than high street branches.

Other big banks planning to shut shop include HBSC, which is set to close 30 branches.

HSBC announced the closure of 69 bank branches earlier this year – it had already shut 82 branches last year.

Typically if there are no banks in a town, you should be able to do some basic banking in your local post office.

Many banks also offer a mobile banking service.

This is where your bank brings a bus to your local area that has the services that are usually available at your branch.

You should call up your bank to see if its runs a banking bus and they will be able to tell you where and when it will be parked.

Other banks use buildings such as a village hall or library to offer mobile banking services.

Some 4,685 bank branches have closed since 2015.
