Make savings on food, drinks and hotels with Rishi’s big tax cut

IF you feel ready to start going out again, now is the time to do so on the cheap.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak this week slashed VAT from 20 per cent to five per cent for businesses in the hospitality and tourism industries — and many are passing on the savings to customers.

The Chancellor has slashed VAT from 20 per cent to five per cent for businesses in the hospitality and tourism industries

So whether you are heading out to eat or are planning your next trip away, see what savings are out there for you . . .

Cheap getaway: If you have a UK break coming up in a Marriott hotel, you are in luck. Customers who have already paid for their booking will receive a credit note for the VAT difference following their stay. The full VAT cut will be applied to future bookings too.

If you are staying at an Ibis hotel, you will be able to save on food and drink. The chain is applying the full VAT cut for grub and drinks, although its room prices will stay the same.

Pub grub: Wetherspoons is reducing prices across a range of its food and drink, so now you will be able to grab a fry-up breakfast for just £3.49. A pint of Guinness, meanwhile, will cost £2.99, down from £3.10.

McDonald’s will be lowering prices on menu favourites

Mega McSavings: Although McDonald’s will not be reducing prices by the full VAT amount, it has said it will be lowering prices on menu favourites.

Extra Value Meals will be down by 40p and Happy Meals will be reduced by 30p. You can also bag a McDonald’s brekkie for 50p less, while a cup of coffee is now just 99p.

Cluckin’ good: I love the boneless bucket at KFC. So I am very happy that instead of paying £10, the bucket will cost just £5 this weekend.

But be sure to grab one by Sunday, when the price is set to go back up.

You will still be able to get sharing buckets for £1 less than their usual price, though, and menu favourites for 50p less. That’s a tasty bargain.
