MCDONALD’S is giving away free carrot sticks – or “reindeer treats” – so kids can help feed Rudolph on Christmas eve.

The fast food chain is handing out the free veggies on December 24 – just in time for Santa to arrive.

McDonald’s has renamed its carrot stick side as ‘reindeer treats’ for Christmas

Carrot sticks from Maccies are typically worth around 99p, although prices do vary depending on location.

McDonald’s says it expects to give out around 100,000 “reindeer treats” as part of the promotion.

However, the freebie will only be around until stocks last – so if your nearest restaurant sells out, you won’t be able to get any.

To claim yours, you’ll just need to ask for your free “reindeer treats” inside a McDonald’s restaurant.

You can’t order them online or for delivery. You also don’t need to purchase anything else to get your carrot sticks for free.

If you’re tempted, locate your nearest McDonald’s by using its restaurant finder tool. There are almost 1,300 Maccies in the UK.

McDonald’s also handed out free “reindeer treats” in 2019.

Traditionally, kids are supposed to leave out a mince pie and glass of milk for Santa, plus carrots for Rudolph and his seven fellow reindeer.

The freebie comes as part of four days of giveaways by McDonald’s.

Between December 20 to December 24, McDonald’s will be providing:

  • 60 tonnes of food to FareShare
  • Nearly one million bagels to food hunger charity Magic Breakfast
  • 50,000 Happy Meal books to Home Start for families who may be struggling after such a tough year.
  • Free carrot bags to customers on Christmas Eve

Michelle Graham-Clare, vice president, marketing and menu, McDonald’s UK and Ireland said: “Christmas really is a time for families so we’re delighted to offer a little lift for the little ones in our lives too.

“In a year like no other, it is more important than ever for us to provide support and a little lift for all families this Christmas.

“We’ll vary our opening hours this Christmas to give our employees more time with their loved ones whilst still making sure those morning McMuffins or late night McNuggets are there when you need us.”

McDonald’s Christmas menu includes a DOUBLE Big Mac and Celebrations McFlurry.

The fast food chain is also giving away 3,000 free Christmas jumpers.

McDonald’s is closing restaurants early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve to give staff time off.
