WEARING a face mask is sadly going to be part of life for the foreseeable future.
But it plays havoc with our skin. Google searches for “maskne” or mask acne, have more than doubled in the past month.
Here I speak to top skin experts for their advice — and add my budget beauty buys.
Dr Tara Francis, from beauty brand Foreo, says: “Make sure skin is cleansed morning and night, thoroughly.
“If you have acne-prone skin or are experiencing a breakout, try a foaming cleanser. If you have dry or irritated skin try a cream cleanser.”
MY TIP: Save 25 per cent at superdrug.com on selected CeraVe products. I like the foaming cleanser for normal to oily skin. It’s currently £7.11, down from £9.49.
Dr Rita Rakus, cosmetic specialist, says: “To keep your skin hydrated and moisturised, use products containing hyaluronic acid as it helps to lock in moisture so your skin doesn’t appear dry, which can help with problem skin.”
MY TIP: A 30ml bottle of The Inkey List hyaluronic acid at cultbeauty.co.uk is £5.99, but the Boots hyaluronic acid serum has great reviews and is just £5.
Khatra Paterson, from skin care clinic KP Aesthetics, says: “If you are wearing a reusable material mask it is vital that this is washed daily to avoid and reduce the bacteria that can build up.”
MY TIP: You can buy a bundle pack of 80 disposable face masks online at boots.com for £30 — a saving of £21.96, compared to buying the packs separately.
Also, Morrisons sells five for £8, Asda is offering two for £2.50, or pick up a single one at Iceland for £2.
Celebrity facialist and skin expert Abi Oleck says: “Even if you’re experiencing bad skin, don’t underestimate the importance of wearing sunscreen every day, with a minimum SPF30, even under your mask.”
MY TIP: I like the Superdrug Solait face fluid SPF30. It costs £3.99 but right now you can get your second Superdrug suncare product for half price.
