Set Your Alarms! Aldi's £39 DIY Saw Has Me Questioning My Loyalty to Bosch

God. I just spent an hour staring at my garden disaster zone wondering how I'll ever afford to fix it before my in-laws visit next weekend. Then my neighbor Dave (who somehow always knows about sales before they happen) texted me about this Aldi circular saw launching Thursday. "Cheaper than that Bosch you've been drooling over," he wrote. His follow-up: "You're welcome."

I feel slightly ridiculous admitting this, but I've had the Bosch GKS 190 on my wishlist since January. Even created a separate savings account for it. £140 seemed reasonable for quality... until now.

The £100 Difference (That's a Weekend Away!)

Aldi's dropping their Corded Mini Circular Saw in stores on April 17th, just in time for teh Easter bank holiday DIY frenzy. At £39.99, it's literally £100 cheaper than the Bosch version I've been eyeing.

Back in 2021, I bought one of those bargain tools from a different supermarket. Complete waste of £25. The thing died after two fence panels. So I'm naturally skeptical about this one.

But the specs actually look decent? It runs at 3500 rpm with a 27mm cutting depth. There's a hoover adaptor (which I desperately need because my wife threatened divorce after my last sawdust disaster in the living room). Plus it has that tool-free blade change feature that I always struggle with on cheaper models.

Why am I even considering this?

Listen. I'm not usually an Aldi tools guy. My dad would probably disown me if he knew I was writing this. He's spent 40 years building up his "proper tools" collection and lectures me about "buying quality once."

But after dropping £4K on a new kitchen last year, I just can't justify the Bosch price tag for something I'll use maybe twice a year.

The Ghost of Specialbuys Past

Anyone who's shopped at Aldi knows their Specialbuys are like witnessing a polite riot. Middle-aged people power-walking to the middle aisle, elbows ready.

I still have nightmares about missing their garden furniture set in 2022. By the time I arrived (9:17am!), there was just one sad display model with a "not for sale" tag.

So if you want this saw, you'll need to be quick. These Specialbuys vanish faster than my motivation to actually complete DIY projects.

Other Easter Weekend Garden Saviors

While you're fighting other DIY enthusiasts for the circular saw, Aldi's also dropping a £24.99 Patio and Wall Cleaner on the same day.

My patio currently looks like it's hosting some kind of exotic moss convention. Poor thing hasn't seen clean stone since about 2018.

They're also launching a Small Pressure Washer for £39.99 with a 110 bar pressure rating. My neighbor Dave (yes, him again) borrowed a similar one last summer and the before/after photos of his driveway were genuinely shocking. Like those oddly satisfying cleaning videos that make you lose 3 hours of your life on social media.

At 5kg, it's light enough that my arms won't feel like they're falling off after 10 minutes of use. Unlike that monster industrial one my brother-in-law lent me that I'm pretty sure was designed for stripping paint off battleships.

The Bosch Elephant in the Room

I should acknowledge that the Bosch saw is technically superior. It cuts deeper (70mm vs 27mm) and has a beefier 1400W motor.

But do I really need that much power to fix a few garden planters and maybe build that bird table I've been promising my daughter since Christmas?

Probably not.

Just remember that Aldi's Easter opening hours are different, so check before you head out. Nothing worse than arriving all pumped for DIY shopping only to find closed doors adn a wasted journey.

I'm setting my alarm for Thursday. If you see someone sprinting through Aldi clutching a circular saw with a manic grin... that'll be me. Wave, but don't get in my way.
