LEFT it too late to get a Mother’s Day gift for tomorrow?
Don’t worry, you can DIY it.
Whether she’s into gardening, beauty or tasty treats, I’ve got you covered, with these cheap and cheerful homemade gifts that Mum will love . . .
THE SCENT-SATIONAL GIFT: A Jo Malone reed diffuser is £64 but you can make your own. Fill an empty perfume bottle or reed diffuser bottle with a capful of fabric softener and water.
Or swap the fabric softener for her favourite Zoflora scent. A pack of 20 reed sticks is £1.50 at Sainsbury’s.
THE TASTY GIFT: You can’t take Mum out for cream tea this year, so why not bring it to her instead?
I’ve seen takeaway cream teas for two for upwards of £15 but you can make your own scones at a fraction of the cost.
They’re simple to make, with minimal ingredients. You’ll need three cups of self-raising flour, half a cup of icing sugar, one cup of sultanas, one cup of heavy cream and a cup of lemonade.
You can follow the recipe I like to use at thelinkssite.com.
THE GARDEN GIFT: If Mum’s a gardener she’ll love this one. You can use one of her plant pots from the garden or buy a new one, then simply paint it.
Kids will love doing this too. You can buy 300ml bottles of ready-mixed paint for £1.25 at Wilko, or £1 at Hobbycraft.
THE THOUGHTFUL GIFT: All you need is a plain canvas or piece of paper, paint — and the kids.
It can be a bit messy, so you may want to lay newspaper across the floor. Simply let the kids paint their hands or feet, then press down on to the canvas.
I did this when I was younger for my mum and she still has it on the kitchen wall.
THE PAMPER-NIGHT GIFT: Mum definitely deserves a pamper night to herself and you can help with that by making a home-made face scrub.
Simply get a jar with a lid and fill it with a mixture of brown sugar and coconut oil for a lovely brown sugar scrub that she can treat herself to once a week.
