FEELING stuffed but still got tons of turkey left?

Shockingly, research shows more than four million Christmas dinners a year get thrown away — equivalent to 263,000 turkeys. That’s a lot of waste but you don’t need to bin any of your bird this year.

We give you four cheap ways of using your Christmas leftovers

Here are four tasty and super-cheap ways to gobble down your leftovers.

FESTIVE FAJITAS: There’s no reason why you can’t have turkey fajitas — I think they’re delicious. The Old El Paso original smoky BBQ fajita kit is £2.50 at Asda, but I like the Asda Mexican style smoky BBQ kit for £1.30. It’s the cheapest kit I’ve seen. Then all you need is your leftover turkey, an onion (10p at Tesco) and a couple of peppers (79p at Tesco). The fajita kit serves four, working out at roughly 55p a serving.

SAVE: £1.20 on the fajita kit

TOP IT OFF: Turkey-topped pizzas can be frozen to use for January dinners. All you need is a couple of pizza bases (£1.20, Sainsbury’s), a jar of tomato pizza sauce (£1 at Tesco) and some mozzarella cheese (43p at Tesco). Pop it in the oven for 10-12 minutes and you’re good to go. It’s far cheaper than ordering a large pizza from Pizza Hut for £17.49. One pizza should serve two people, making it £1.31 a serving.

SAVE: £7.44 per serving

CURRY ON: A scrummy turkey curry is one of my go-to post-Christmas dishes. Sainsbury’s has a cheap and cheerful jar of curry sauce for just 28p. It pairs well with long-grain rice — a 1kg bag is just £1.20 at Tesco. Heat it all in a pan and bulk up with rice if you’ve got less meat. If there are four of you, it tots up to just 37p each.

SAVVY SARNIE: This has to be my favourite. A turkey sandwich always goes down a treat, especially with stuffing. It’s also a great way to use even more leftovers — cranberry sauce can go straight in there too. If you’re up for a treat you could even pop some pigs in blankets in there for a festive feast. And the best bit is you don’t need to buy anything for it, you can just use whatever you have left in the house.
