A BRAND new Tory MP will spend Christmas Day at work in a chemical plant because he doesnt want to let down his old mates.

Former chemical process operator Jacob Young was elected as the new MP for Redcar as part of the Torys destruction of Labours northern Red Wall in the general election 10 days ago.

Jacob Young will be working Christmas Day.

While his former employers told Mr Young he was released from his three month notice period immediately, he volunteered to finish the holiday shifts he was rotad on for.

Mr Young said: I should have been working a three month notice but my employer has been really generous and said I can leave any time.

But if I didn’t do Christmas Day it I’d be dropping the lads at work in it.

My last shift is on January 1 – New Year, new me”.

Finishing up his work with Petrochemical, hes been at the company for five years and worked across all their Teesside sites.

The 26-year-old won his seat after surging to victory past Labours Anna Turley with a huge vote swing.

He is one of several northern MPs to lead the charge as Boris Johnson smashed through Labours Red Wall.

The first Tory to ever hold the seat, he’s been in the area all his life, getting his BTEC from Redcar and Cleveland College, before finishing his studies at the University of Teeside.

Despite the thumping win, Mr Young had not arranged to get out of work earlier as he didnt expect it.

He explained: “I was always optimistic but never confident.

“All the polls, including the exit poll, said it would stay Labour but we were feeling a breakthrough on the ground.

“I’ve lived in Teesside my whole life and I didn’t think change would come so quickly in our area but I’m so pleased has.”

He added: “It was a very humbling feeling, watching the results come in, and I was getting flashbacks to four years ago – the first time I stood in Redcar where I had came fourth.
