Downing Street said today that the PM was making positive strides after being released from the intensive care unit at St Thomas’ Hospital in Westminster.
A No10 spokeswoman said today: “The Prime Minister continues to make very good progress.”
It comes after Mr Johnson took his first “short walks” in between periods of rest on Friday following a tense 72 hours battling the deadly bug, Downing Street said.
The PM is now enjoying doing puzzles and watching films as he recovers from covid-19 with his recovery expected to be up to a month long.
CATCHING UP
Boris has been watching Lord of the Rings and cult classic Withnail and I as he recouperates in bed and No 10 staff have uploaded several Hollywood classics to an iPad.
They include Groundhog Day and Home Alone — fitting given Boris’s self-isolation before being rushed to St Thomas’ last Sunday.
He is also said to be play maths quiz Sudoku, a relaxation favourite of predecessor Theresa May.
A No 10 source said yesterday: “It’s a good time to fill in some of his cultural gaps.
“It might seem odd but he has never seen Home Alone. He prefers Greek poetry, doesn’t he?”
KEEP CALM AND CARRIE ON
Downing Street has refused to say if the PM has been allowed visitors or seen fiancée Carrie Symonds, who is pregnant.
However, Mr Johnson is said to have received thousands of cards from well-wishers.
A source told the Times: “There are boxes and boxes in his outer office.
“They are really lovely and come from people of all ages and all over the country. I think when he sees them he will be tremendously grateful for everyone’s kind wishes.”
Ms Symonds, 33, is said to have sent loveletters and a baby scan to her partner to lift his morale in intensive care.
The couple have been apart for a week as he fights covid-19.
As the daily death toll hit a record 980 yesterday, a source said: “It’s been a very, very worrying time for Carrie.
“She has been urging Boris to get well for their unborn child.”
