BRITAIN has cut carbon emissions faster than any other advanced country over the past decade, says a report.

And today Boris Johnson will consolidate the UK’s place at the front of the global race to reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

Boris Johnson will reveal a new plan to cut Britain’s carbon emissions

The PM will set a major new target to slash emissions by a massive 68 per cent by 2030.

The move comes ahead of Britain hosting next year’s COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow.

The ambitious new target is significantly higher than the UK’s current target to cut emissions by 53 per cent.

This is the first time Britain is setting its own national target due to leaving the EU.

A report by the National Audit Office revealed the UK’s emissions reduced by 28 per cent between 2008 and 2018 — more than any other G20 economy.

But it warned that faster progress is going to be needed to meet the 2050 zero target.

Mr Johnson said: “We have proven we can reduce our emissions and create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the process.”
