Mr Cummings was snapped going into Downing Street with a fellow adviser, but appeared not to follow social distancing rules and stay two metres apart from them.

Dominic Cummings was back at work at No10 today after a fortnight at home

He was spotted taking a packed lunch in with him – which seemed to include a raw carrot, an orange and what looked like a babybel.

The last time Mr Cummings was seen was more than two weeks ago.

He was spotted running away from Downing Street just hours after Boris Johnson himself tested positive for the virus.

Aides insisted that he was just late for a meeting.

The PM’s spokesperson said this lunchtime of the PM’s aide: “He is back in No10 and working today.

“He had coronations symptoms and that is why he self isolated.”

He stressed that “people will only return to work when they are no longer symptomatic and follow all the PHE guidelines”.

And he insisted: “Everyone in No10 continue to practice social distancing which means stay 2 metres apart wherever possible.”

The PM and several of his top team came down with coronavirus symptoms just over a fortnight ago.

Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, tested positive along with the PM himself.

Professor Chris Whitty also took time off after having symptoms, but it’s not believed that he took a test himself.

And Boris’ partner Carrie was forced to isolate on her own too – but still appeared to catch the bug.

She was not tested but said on Twitter she was “on the mend”.

Yesterday the PM and pregnant Carrie were spotted taking a walk together around the grounds of Chequers, where he is resting and recovering from his week-long hospital stay.

Downing Street said the PM continues to recover and is not doing any work or phonecalls at the moment.

It is unlikely he will be involved in this week’s decision to extend the lockdown.
