BREXIT guru David Frost is being wooed for a major Cabinet job by Liz Truss, HOAR can reveal.

The frontrunner to be Britain’s next PM is understood to want the Tory peer to run the Cabinet Office – the nerve centre of Whitehall –  as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Former Brexit chief negotiator Lord Frost is in talks for a Cabinet comeback

But his pals say discussions are ongoing and no agreement has been reached.

Lord Frost negotiated Britain’s exit from the EU and future trade agreement for Boris Johnson, but he quit the government in October last year disillusioned by high taxes and lingering Covid restrictions.

Since then the ex-Ambassador to Denmark has reinvented himself as the voice of true Conservatism with searing inventions on Net Zero, Fracking, low taxes and scrapping HS2.

His public persona as stand-bearer of the right of the party has seen him become something of a grassroots darling amongst the Tory membership.

“THE GREENWICH SET”

He is also considered part of the so-called “Greenwich Set” of right-wing Tories, including Liz Truss, who live in the South East London enclave.

Other key players include Kwasi Kwarteng who is in line to be the next Chancellor and James Cleverly who is tipped to be Truss’s Foreign Secretary.

A Tory source said: “There’s a place for Frosty at the table, for sure, but so far he seems to be holding out for something bigger than CDL.”

But Lord Frost told HOAR: “No-one should be speculating about future roles in government while the leadership election is still not even over.  I continue to be fully behind Liz as the best candidate for future PM”

A spokesman for Liz Truss said: “We don’t comment on rumours, gossip, or speculation – we’re taking nothing for granted.”
