A COMMONS vote on post-Brexit immigration laws could be delayed by weeks after fears over the security of online video conferencing app Zoom.
MPs returning from their Easter break today were due to question ministers about the policy changes using Zoom to create a virtual Parliament sitting.
Under the historic changes, most MPs will log in to quiz ministers via Zoom while just 50 are allowed to physically sit in the Chamber.
But there are fears the app is not secure enough to allow politicians to vote using it — and officials are now trying to find an alternative.
They believe they have come up with a plan using an online system already used by MPs known as the ‘members hub’. This is already used by politicians to table written questions to ministers.
The plan has not been approved yet.
It has cost just under £150,000 to set up the new virtual Parliament, and it is estimated to cost around £370,000 a month to run, according to official stats put out last night.
Westminster sources believe contentious votes on legislation like the Immigration Bill will be delayed for a couple of weeks.
The new virtual Commons is expected to sit three days a week.
