A COVID-carrying MP attended a church service the DAY after she had a coronavirus test which later came back positive, it was revealed today.
Margaret Ferrier gave a reading to the congregation – which could have potentially spread the virus to them – the day after she first developed symptoms of the disease.
The Rutherglen and Hamilton West MP – who has been suspended by the SNP but still has refused to quit the Commons – took a test on Saturday.
She visited a gym, gift shop and a beauty salon on the same day, too.
She then allegedly went to a church service the next day, the Daily Record reported.
She is said to have given a gospel reading from the altar at St Mungo’s church in Townhead, Glasgow on Sunday.
Yet, the church’s website states public mass is limited to 50 people and those who are shielding, self-isolating or feel unwell should not not attend.
The Archdiocese of Glasgow said: “For the good of the whole community, it is important that anyone who is required to self-isolate does so in accordance with the Government’s guidance, so anyone in that situation should not attend mass.
“It is disappointing if this has not happened but we would like to reassure people that we fulfil all the Government and church guidelines.”
HOAR has been unable to contact Ms Ferrier’s office for comment.
The news came as SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon slipped up again yesterday and referred to Ms Ferrier as “Margaret Covid”.
Asked at the daily coronavirus briefing when the SNP knew the circumstances of Ms Ferrier’s trip, Ms Sturgeon said: “Patrick Grady [the SNP chief whip] didn’t know last Monday or Tuesday that Margaret Covid has suspected or confirmed Covid.”
After feeling better she travelled to London on Monday, an attended Parliament, breaking isolation rules to stay put until test results come back.
She got her positive test result on Monday evening, but then chose to travel back home from London to Scotland on Tuesday morning.
SNP sources said they were only made aware she tested positive and made a trip to London on Thursday.
But she informed them she tested positive – alerting Parliamentary authorities – on Wednesday.
Ms Sturgeon and several of her colleagues in the SNP have called on her to do the right thing and quit as an MP – but she has yet to say whether she will throw in the towel.
Leader of the Scottish Tories, Douglas Ross, said the SNP’s story was “full of holes” and Ms Ferrier must quit now.
