ED Miliband has been branded an “airhead” after ditching his bike helmet for a £250 inflatable crash hat – to protect his barnet.

The Labour MP has been spotted out on his bike sporting an ‘airbag helmet’

Adverts for a Swedish company that make them boast that it is “great crash protection for urban cyclists who value their hairstyle as well as their safety”.

One Westminster insider said: “We all know that Ed can come up with some harebrained ideas. But this makes him look like an airhead!”

Labour’s shadow climate change secretary is a keen cyclist.

He wears the inflatable gear on his daily commute to Westminster from his north London home.

Ed is well known for making the headlines with his outlandish stunts and photo gaffes.

When Labour leader in 2015 he unveiled the notorious EdStone – a giant stone table with the party’s six general election pledges carved into it.

The 8 foot stone plinth was widely mocked and came to be known as Ed’s tombstone – symbolising his humiliating defeat to David Cameron in the 2015 election.

And in 2014 he was famously photographed awkwardly eating a bacon sandwich.

The cringeworthy snap stormed the internet and became a meme.

A spokesman for Mr Miliband declined to comment on his inflatable crash helmet.
