MORE than four in ten Brits reckon their lives have improved since the coronavirus outbreak, figures revealed yesterday.

Spending quality time with loved ones, an escape from commuting, more exercise and a slower pace of life were all major plus points, a poll said.

Four in ten Brits reported positive lifestyle changes since the Covid-19 outbreak, figures show

More than one in four — 28 per cent — say they plan to make “big changes” in their lives once the nation has fully recovered.

The Office for National Statistics quizzed 1,920 Brits aged 16 and up for the Opinions and Lifestyle Survey on the impact of Covid-19.

Some 47 per cent of the 1,200 aged 16 to 69 said they had enjoyed positive changes, compared to 24 per cent of the 720 aged 70 and up.

Overall, the figure works out at 43 per cent, the ONS said, of whom more than half were able to spend more time with loved ones.

Half were enjoying a slower pace of life, while 47 per cent said they were spending less time travelling. A third who reported positive changes said they were exercising more. Almost all plan to keep it up.

More than half of those in the older age group who reported improvements said they were more in touch with neighbours — while 47 per cent said they were speaking more with family and friends.

Of those spending more quality time with those they live with, 86 per cent said they want this to continue after the pandemic. However, 47 per cent overall said their wellbeing had been affected in the poll held between June 18 and 21.

A quarter said they had felt lonely often or some of the time in the previous seven days — proportions similar to the previous week.

The poll was the first in a series since non-essential shops could open in England and masks became mandatory on public transport.
