HOST Julie Etchingham interrupted Boris Johnson more than double than she stopped Jeremy Corbyn talking during the leaders’ debate tonight, it has been claimed.

The ITV newsreader cut the PM short 30 times compared to just the 14 times she stopped the Labour leader a senior Tory spin doctor claimed.

And viewers took to social media to complain about the “rushed” nature of the debate tonight.

One wrote: “What are @ITV doing allowing Julie Etchingham to interrupt as much as she is – no point in the debate at this rate #LeadersDebate #johnsonvcorbyn”

A second added: “Julie done it again let Jeremy Corbyn finish but interrupt Boris #ITVDebate”

A third said: “Johnson doing a lot of talking, Julie having to interrupt.

“Corbyn seems to be pretty stable, but on some subjects flatly refuses to properly answer the question.”

And many pointed out how she cut the party leaders short – repeating “thank you” to get them to stop talking.

The two party bosses were grilled on Brexit, crime and the NHS in tonight’s live clash on ITV.

But Corbyn dodged questions several times on how he would campaign in a second referendum.

He claims he wants to renegotiate a new deal with Brussels in just three months and put it back to the people for another vote.

Yet multiple times in less than half an hour he refused to say which side he would take afterwards.

Meanwhile, Mr Johnson fired up when asked about whether he would sell off the NHS – saying it was an “absolute invention” the health service would be sold to the US.

Corbyn was laughed at when he said his 4-day week would be paid for by productivity [improvements] all across Britain”.

It was ultimately Johnson who edged Jeremy Corbyn 51-49 in a snap election debate poll.

The narrow win comes as the PM is so far ahead in the polls – consolidating him as a firm favourite for the General Election.

Chris Curtis, YouGovs Political Research Manager, said: “Our snap poll shows that the public is divided on who won the debate, with most Labour voters thinking Jeremy Corbyn won, most Conservative voters thinking Boris Johnson won, and very few people changing their minds.

“But given the Conservatives went into this debate in the lead, they will hope the lack of a knockout blow means they can maintain this until voting day.”
