JEREMY Corbyn must apologise and admit he got it wrong over the anti-Semitism row if he wants to be a Labour MP, Gordon Brown has vowed.
The ex-Labour Prime Minister has demanded Mr Corbyn take responsibility for his failure to stop anti-Jewish hate after Sir Keir Starmer refused to let him back onto the Labour benches.
Mr Brown told Good Morning Britain: “Jeremy has got to make a full apology, no ifs, no buts, no qualifying sentences.
“He’s got to admit he got it wrong, that there is no place for anti-Semitism, no place for any form of discrimination in our society.”
It comes after Mr Corbyn issued a statement refusing to apologise yet again, despite the equalities watchdog issuing a damning report saying he let anti-Semitism flourish on his watch.
After the release of the report, Sir Keir immediately suspended him from the party and has refused to let him back as a Labour MP despite the ruling body, the National Executive Committee, reinstating his membership.
Mr Brown stormed: “He’s got to make it clear he will have no truck with anti-Semitism at any time in the future.
“Until he makes that clear, Keir Starmer will continue to insist he stays outside of the Labour Party in Parliament.”
The former PM said the anti-Semitic abuse levied at Jewish MPs by Labour Party members was a “a matter of people’s personal safety”.
And he urged Mr Corbyn to “reassure people” that abuse is “completely unacceptable”.
The ex-Labour leader tried to walk back comments claiming the amount of anti-Semitism was “overstated” for “political reasons” but still failed to admit his failure to stop the bullying.
‘BROKEN SYSTEM’
Jewish MP Margaret Hodge said the Labour Party’s decision to reinstate Mr Corbyn, despite the ruling by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, made her “question her future” in Labour.
In a furious message on Twitter, Ms Hodge said: “Yesterday has shown once again just how broken and unjust the existing complaints system is.
“It has caused untold hurt and anguish across the Jewish community, undermined progress made and made me question my own place in the party.”
She praised Sir Keir for not restoring the whip which would let him sit as a Labour MP again.
“As Corbyn has refused to himself accept the findings of the EHRC report, refused to apologise for his actions and refused to take any responsibility, withholding the whip is the right decision.”
