She said: This is an appalling heart-breaking night for the Labour party.”

Asked who was to blame she replied: Jeremy Corbyn.

She added: Jeremy Corbyn should announce he is resigning from his count today. He should have done so many, many, many months ago.

There is no justification for why he was still there and his personal actions have delivered this result for my constituents and swathes of the country.

It is very clear when someone says I dont have human blood and theyre not even suspended from the Labour Party, then someone says vile misogynistic things about me and others and they are not expelled, suggested we have a problem.

I dont care what Jeremy Corbyn and Jennie Formby (General Secretary of the Labour Party), have said about anti-Semitism in the Labour Party and how theyve dealt with it, they simply have not.

Jeremy Corbyns actions on anti-Semitism have made us the nasty party.

We are the racist party because of the actions of our leader and the lack of actions of our leader. We need to detoxify and move on.

Her scathing attack comes as Boris Johnson was on course for a stunning landslide victory this morning.

The Tory boss was applauded and cheered by supporters as he arrived alongside girlfriend Carrie – minutes after Jeremy Corbyn announced he was quitting as Labour leader.

Exit polls had the Tories winning a huge majority with 368 seats – while Labour lagged well behind on 191, there worst election result since 1983.

Ms Smeeth wasn’t the only Labour backer to slam Corbyn, with former Home Secretary Alan Johnson saying he “couldn’t lead the working class out of a paper bag”.

Labour’s Red Wall came crashing down on a momentous night, with Tories winning Northern seats – some of which hadn’t been held by the Conservatives for more than a century.

Meanwhile it was also a bad night for the Lib Dems, with leader Jo Swinson losing her Dunbartonshire East seat.
