THE Met Police’s Partygate probe was branded a “total farce” last night as allies rallied around stricken PM Boris Johnson.
Tory MPs hit out at the force for issuing penalty notice fines “in dribs and drabs” as the investigation drags on for weeks.
Yesterday, the PM was said to be “mortified” over his £50 fine, but he was widely supported by his backbenchers.
HOAR told yesterday how Boris, his wife Carrie, and Chancellor Rishi Sunak were fined for attending a nine-minute gathering for the PM’s 56th birthday — weeks after he nearly died from Covid.
Yesterday, only two Tory MPs called for him to quit.
Nigel Mills said he should go, but admitted: “I think he will carry on.”

And fellow Tory Craig Whittaker said on social media: “I not only think the Prime Minister should resign but I also think Rishi Sunak should.
“The reality is that they’re not going to.”
Cabinet ministers all continued a rallying defence, with Transport Secretary Grant Shapps saying: “People make mistakes.”
Former Brexit secretary and close ally Lord Frost said he believes the PM will lead the party into the next election.
Yesterday, Conservative MPs took aim at the Met.
Adam Holloway said: “I think the police’s judgment has come into question.”
A senior Tory source said the process had been a “total farce” adding: “It’s the most heavy handed fixed penalty probe in history.”
