OVERNIGHT stays with family and friends could be allowed within weeks, Matt Hancock has said.

The Health Secretary gave a glimmer of hope to millions of families who live far away from each other and have not been able to meet due to lockdown restrictions.

Mr Hancock said ministers were looking at relaxing the rules before the end of the summer

It is currently against the law to stay overnight away from your primary residence.

But Mr Hancock said ministers were looking at relaxing the rules before the end of the summer.

Grilled on when the rules will be relaxed, he said: “It’s an important consideration, not least because I want people to be able also to have a holiday if at all possible this summer.”

Mr Hancock also promised that the Government would consider whether the law needs strengthening to make it easier for people to work from home if they want to.
