PUB gardens won’t open to serve pints before July 4, Boris Johnson confirmed this lunchtime.

There were hopes that as more outdoor spaces started to reopen, huge pub beer gardens with loads of space could be one of them.

Beer gardens won’t open again until next month, Boris said today
The plan is to start reopenings from July 4

Today the PM will announce that zoos, theme parks and open air cinemas are allowed to open their doors once again.

But beer gardens will have to wait until next month.

Some pubs are doing pints at the moment – but only to take away.

Thirsty beer-lovers can’t sit outside and enjoy their pint in the garden for the time being.

At PMQs today, MP Peter Aldous asked the PM: “Would the Prime Minister give full consideration to allowing beer gardens to also open from 15 June?

“The feedback I am receiving is that many pubs are now facing the unpalatable and unwanted prospect of having to make staff redundant.”

Millions of jobs could be lost in the hospitality industry thanks to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Pubs have been shut since before the UK went into a nationwide lockdown on March 23.

But Boris replied: “He is absolutely right we want to reopen hospitality as quickly as we possibly can.

“The House will remember that according to the roadmap we were going to open hospitality no earlier than July 4.

“That is still the plan, we are sticking to our plan. Guidance is being developed for such hospitality.

“What we don’t want to see is a… mass of people that can spread disease.

“It’s very important that people understand the continuing risks that this country faces.
