STUNNED rail passengers were bumped up to first class on a Virgin train last week – because Jeremy Corbyn insisted on slumming it in standard class.

A supermarket executive in her 20s was on the 14.49 train from Carlisle to Euston on Friday when the train manager asked her table if they could move to first class because they had a “VIP” coming.

The train manager later told them the VIP was Mr Corbyn, who got on with his entourage at Lancaster and had requested they be put in standard class because he didnt want to be seen in first.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, said: We sat down in our seats in standard class, the two chairs opposite us were free.

The train manager came over and asked us if we would like to move to first class as they have VIPs coming and needed to free up the table.

He also asked another girl who was sitting in the opposite row, if she wanted to move to first class.

As we moved to find some seats in the first class coach, we were told the VIP was Jeremy Corbyn and he did not want to be seen in first class during election.

We eventually found our seats and stayed in first class. We found it a bit amusing really that the man who wants to be Prime Minister wanted to slum it in standard class.

Jeremy Corbyn got on the train at Lancaster. We thought the whole thing was a bit strange really.”

A Labour party spokesman said: “Unlike Boris Johnson, who flies around on his private jet, Jeremy tends to travel like most of us do – in standard class.
