RISHI Sunak faced a backlash last night after it emerged the super-rich would get a £400 energy bill handout for every house they own.

The Chancellor urged loaded homeowners to give it to charity if they did not need it.

He promised that was what he would do with the multiple handouts he was due to receive.

But Labour shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “It is not right that if you own a second or a third home you should get this £400 payment multiple times.

“You can now get a situation where somebody who’s incredibly wealthy gets £400 on three or four occasions because they own so many properties.”

Mr Sunak’s splurge to deal with the cost of living crisis got a broadly positive reaction from experts and hard-pressed families.

And he twice refused to rule out a third emergency bailout next year if prices stayed sky-high.

He told the BBC: “We are sitting here in May. We don’t know what energy bills will be next April.”

Boris Johnson hailed Mr Sunak’s “big bazooka” £21billion package — saying it would support families until energy prices died down again.

But the PM admitted families still faced a “bumpy time” as prices are still soaring.
