THE England’s rugby team have backed plans to mark the anniversary of the first lockdown by carrying out kinds deeds.
The sportsmen, join a host of celebs to mark the grim milestone with kindness as part of a campaign run by Children’s charity Variety and former Tory minister Esther McVey.
The England team said they will “harness the community spirit” formed during lockdown, while backing a minutes silence agreed by Boris Johnson on March 23.
Captain Owen Farrell along with Maro Itoje, Mako Vunipola and Jamie George will commemorate the occasion with some “classic English can-do community spirit.
In a joint statement they said: “It’s been a tough year and for those that have lost loved ones a heartbreaking year but in so many ways across every street, village, town and City people have dug deep and excelled themselves.
“The NHS, Police and all emergency services, of chemists and shop workers, carers and volunteers; those who have shielded, run errands or cared for a family member.
“We’ve pledged to do one kind thing on 23rd March – to keep that classic English can-do community spirit going – and urge the rugby family across the country to do the same.”
A host of TV celebrities and hundreds of members of the public have posted selfies making a heart sign with their hands to show support.
Those taking part include Eamonn Holmes, Nicky Chapman, Jon Culshaw, Nick Knowles, Jayne Torville and Christopher Dean.
Tory MP Esther McVey added: ”The support of England’s Men’s Rugby shows just how important it is that the British public don’t let go of the community spirit it found in lockdown.
“We urge people to join the rugby lads and do something kind for someone on March 23 – give it a try!”
