SACKED Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has been tipped for a knighthood to stop him spilling the beans in revenge.
Insiders believe he will get a gong in Boris Johnson’s next honours list, seen by some as the price for buying his silence.
Mr Williamson had expected a demotion in last week’s reshuffle but instead was exiled to the backbenches.
He has strongly denied rumours that he had been telling friends about the things he saw when he was running Mr Johnson’s leadership campaign in 2019.
Before he entered the Cabinet, tarantula-owning Mr Williamson was the party’s Chief Whip where he was seen as a master of the dark arts.
An insider said: “There were concerns about having Gavin on the backbenches but in the end that could not be a reason to delay the promotion of new talent knocking on the door.”
He was replaced last week by former vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi.
