SIR KEIR Starmer will tomorrow vow to turn Labour into the party of “security”.

In a desperate bid to sever links with the Corbyn era, the Labour chief will try to wrap himself in the flag and beg voters to trust his party again.

Sir Keir Starmer checks over his speech – which he hopes will sever Labour’s links with the Corbyn era

Millions of patriotic Brits deserted Labour because of their distaste for former leader Jeremy Corbyn’s hard-left policies and support for convicted terrorists.

In his big party conference speech tomorrow, Sir Keir will pledge to put the issue of security at the heart of his leadership.

In Doncaster tomorrow he will say: “I want this to be the best country to grow up in and the best country to grow old in. A country in which we put family first.

“A country that embodies the values I hold dear. Decency, fairness, opportunity, compassion and security.

“Security for our nation, our families and all of our communities.”

‘TRUST TAKES TIME’

Mr Corbyn led Labour to its biggest defeat in nearly 100 years and in a bid to woo back working-class voters in the former “Red Wall” heartlands of England, his successor will seek to convince them how much the party has changed since he took over the helm.

“Trust takes time,” he will say. “It starts with being a credible Opposition. With taking the job seriously. That’s what we will do.

“So, to those people in Doncaster and Deeside, in Glasgow and Grimsby, in Stoke and in Stevenage, to those who have turned away from Labour, I say this — we hear you.”

He will add: “I ask you: take another look at Labour. We’re under new leadership.

“We love this country as you do. This is the country I grew up in and it’s the country I will grow old in. And I want it to be the country I know it can be.

“That, in the end, is why I do this. To change lives for the better.”

A Labour source told HOAR that Sir Keir — Britain’s former chief prosecutor — wants to turn Labour into the party of patriotism.

“The most successful Labour leaders have always been patriotic and optimistic about Britain’s future —— and that definitely describes Keir,” the source added.

“You don’t become Britain’s most senior prosecutor without a love of your country.”
