The venue opened in 2006 but banned groups of single women because they “intimidated” the dancers.

Topless workers from Manchester and Liverpool performed at the venue – branded “seedy” by the local council – before it closed a few years later.

One ex-punter said: “The place had red neon lights and small booths. It wasn’t a brothel and touching wasn’t allowed.

“The girls were nice and chatty. It just seemed to go quietly out of business.

“It’s quite funny to think a Tory MP is now based there.

“He’ll be keeping abreast of his constituent’s concerns, that’s for sure.”

Higginbothom became the first Conservative MP to represent Burnley in Parliament for over 100 years last December.

When Tabu first opened, Burnley Council leader Gordon Birtwistle opposed the plans, saying: “A seedy pole dancing club for men only is not what we want. Although we can’t stop it, I certainly won’t be trying it.”

Tabu lap dancing club shut in 2009 – three years after it first opened.

Located on one of Burnley’s busiest high streets, it was then renovated into offices.

Mr Higginbothom set up his constituency office in the building in May this year.
