MILITARY veterans will get cut-price train travel to help boost job prospects and visit family, under Tory plans.
Eligibility for the existing HM Forces Railcard, which costs 21 a year and provides a one-third discount off most tickets, will be extended to all who have served.
It will cover journeys by those travelling with spouses and children. Savings may be hundreds of pounds a year.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps makes the pledge on Remembrance Sunday today.
It helps 700,000 veterans not covered by existing railcards taking the total to 2.3million.
Mr Shapps said: We owe a debt to the men and women whove served our country. This will support veterans who dont qualify for senior or disabled peoples railcards to make the most of opportunities after their service.
Meanwhile Jeremy Corbyn has vowed Labour will guarantee justice for veterans as part of his pitch to be PM.
The partys manifesto will include ending rough sleeping and offering free education and apprenticeships for veterans.
Mr Corbyn said: Our veterans are not getting the support and respect they deserve, with thousands cruelly let down.
Privilege to serve
REMEMBRANCE is our annual opportunity to pay collective respect to those who died fighting for our country, to uphold our values and our freedom.
For me it is a great privilege to represent the Armed Forces at the Cenotaph. My thoughts are always with those who died under my command.
My generations grown up with veterans who understood the horrors of war. But as they depart the coming generation is not touched so personally.
Our challenge is to ensure each generation understands the nature of war never changes. Its violent and visceral.
