The Health Secretary told BBC Radio 4 it was crucial that the PM follows the rules as it was possible people can catch coronavirus twice.

Mr Hancock said: “The Prime Minister is following exactly the same rules as every other person in the country.”

What did Dr Susan Hopkins say?

During the press conference PHE director Dr Susan Hopkins said Tier 1 wasn’t working and that the system may need to be strengthened in order to “get us through the winter months”.

It was suggested that the Tier 1 rules may be tougher when England emerges from the second lockdown on December 2.

Matt Hancock added: “It’s not about whether there is a Tier system but what about measures are in each Tier.”

But he mentioned that no such discussions have taken place yet in No10.
